The Cavalry is coming! The Cavalry is coming! Yes we will have the cavalry in attendance!
We have been selected by the Vermont Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission as a Top 10 Event for 2013. - Mark your calendars!
Mrs. Lincoln will be joining us for the weekend. She will be doing a program on Sunday Oct 6th, during which she will talk about her life. She will also be around the event all weekend to speak with the public. Come out and meet her!! Also, the Mary Elizabeth School will be coordinating a variety of traditional children's games and activities. See our Activities & Displays page for more info!
We will once again be joined by the Vermont Civil War Hemlocks with their two full-scale 3-inch ordnance cannons and by the Champlain Valley Historical Reenactors who provide a great variety of Civil War reenactors from the Medical Coalition to Union and Confederate Infantry to the camp's Sutler (a moving general store). We are also welcoming back the 18th Vermont Regiment with an array of educational displays and civilian and military reenactors. New to the event this year is the 11th NY. These guys are a versatile group who are skillfully trained artillerymen as well as infantry men and can do both Union and Confederate impressions. For this event they will be attending as Infantry.... likely Confederate!
Educational and entertaining for the whole family!
The event will occur in historic Cambridge Village on VT Route 15, the Grand Army of the Republic Highway named for the veterans’ organization formed after the war. The village of Cambridge will step back 150 years to be transformed into a bustling community of Civil War-era activities with both civilian and military reenactors. Selected by the governor’s Sesquicentennial Commission as one of the top ten Civil War events for 2013, this wide range of displays, speakers, and other activities concludes each day with a demonstration of battle tactics used in the conflict. Visitors of all ages will be entertained and educated at this free event, held annually by the Cambridge Historical Society during the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the 1861-1865 War of the Rebellion.
